Take a trip with Clifford down memory lane to the nostalgic 80's, when he was producing new age music albums for a fresh and hungry audience.
Legacy by Whitelight & Friends (1985)
One of my earlest albums, recorded around the same time as Ascension and released on New World Music. No comparison though, as this one has me singing vocals! Written and produced in collaboration with my piano teacher Jon Land, this album comprised of New Age songs in the style of Jon & Vangelis. Quite good stuff actually, and nice lyrics too. Ahhh - take me back to those cosmic '80s!
Ionospheres by Karma (1985)
Another very early New World release, again in collaboration with Jon Land, under the psedonym of 'Karma'. We shared the album 50/50, both coming up with some nice ambient tracks along the general theme of the weather i.e. 'Electric Rain', 'Clouds', 'Mist' and our personal favourite title 'Sky Motion'. Watch out for the track 'Sunscape' as the guitar was played by none other than Steven Russell, who later went on to fame and fortune as 'The Barefoor Doctor'.
Speed Of Sound by Whitelight (1985)
Yet another collaboration with Jon Land, this time under our band name of 'Whitelight'. Again, we shared writing duties on the album, which was notably a very un-new age effort, with a drum track far more suited to driving than relaxing! Great fun and full of exitement, the Speed Of Sound hung around for a few years before it's eventual deletion from the New World Music catalogue.
Moonstone by Stairway (1988)
In the mid-80's I was introduced by New World Music to Jim McCarty (of the Yardbirds) and Loui Cennamo (of Renaissance/Illusion) with a view to producing their second album as Stairway for New World Music. The result, entitled 'Moonstone' was a popular album for New World for a number of years, and contains some great songs and instrumental tracks, sung by Jim himself and accompanied by the excellent Jane Relf, also from the 70's band Renaissance/Illusion.
Raindreaming by Stairway (1995)
I was called back a second time to produce a further album for Stairway entitled 'Raindreaming', which turned out to be a far more 'new agey' style album than it's predecessor, featuring some lovely textured tracks with plenty of atmosphere. This album was later picked up by Oasis Productions for distribution in Canada.
Inner Child by L'esprit (1993)
Following the success of their previous albums 'The Language Of Touch' and 'Far Journey', I was contacted by Chris Stonor of the band to produce another L'espirit album entitled 'Inner Child'. A very enjoyable experience it was too, as I was invited to stay at Chris' studio close to Brighton beach for several weeks in complete artist seclusion! Ahhh - that was the life...
