Plunge into the Soothing Sounds of Healing Waves

September 1st, 2011 | By The iPhone App Review.

In this hectic world it's good to take a moment, find your center and reconnect with yourself. The Healing Waves iPhone app from Darren Marks brings the soothing sounds of Clifford White's deep relaxation tracks to you in a whole new way. If you feel frazzled (and let's be honest, who doesn't these days?), take a deep breath, and a moment out of your day to consider my iPhone app review of Healing Waves.

The Healing Waves iPhone app contains a special collection of tracks from three of White's 11 solo new age music albums, and links to purchase three of his additional albums at discounted rates. In case you are wondering who Clifford White is, let's just say he's been a leader in the new age music scene since the 1980s. Chances are, if you love new age music, you either know who White is or you want to. This collection of tracks is intended to put a little piece of perfect relaxation in your palm. Tracks are paired with ten different "hypnotic background animations" which remind me of advanced Windows Media Player animations from the 90s. You can choose your preferred animation, and start on which ever track you desire. Tracks play in a loop. There are play pause and stop buttons to control the audio. The Healing Waves iPhone app is missing a few customization options. I wish this app had a playlist feature. Otherwise, it's delightfully soothing.

I felt my heart rate evening out within moments of putting the Healing Waves iPhone app on. There's something about the way White combines electronic music, orchestration and half a dozen other musical disciplines that inspires soothing on a deep level. This app will be useful for anyone in a stressful situation or career that needs a little help getting in touch with their calmer self. That means this app has universal appeal, as long as you don't mind new age music.

Relaxing should not be difficult, so using the Healing Waves iPhone app is extremely easy and intuitive. The home page has an simple bottom tab design, containing information about White and the application in addition to links to the app's audio content. Audio content is organized by title, and then each title is organized by track name. Customize your visualization settings on the play page. One complaint: this app needs an option to keep the music playing while you explore the other sections of the app.

I am not a new age music fan in general, but I found something special in a few of the tracks on the Healing Waves iPhone app. I do not think each track suits me personally, and assume this will be the case for many users. However, the tracks I did like had a profound effect on my sense of inner peace. Any app that improves your mood and heals your heart earns itself a permanent spot on my device.
